Coding with Minecraft Modding

About This Course

Modding in Minecraft is one of the best ways for students to learn computer science, allowing students to use their imagination to turn ideas into reality and create things that are not otherwise part of the game. Students will use both block-based and language-based coding to modify player abilities, create custom tools and mobs, design texture packs, and more. By creating programs from start to finish students “hack” the game to put their own twist on it. Minecraft helps a little JavaScript go a long way; with a game engine already built, students get to see their code affect gameplay using the same language system that runs over 3 million programs and devices.

You'll learn to:

  • Plan, design, and program powerful objects and special powers as in-game modifications
  • Understand programming concepts like conditional logic statements, variables, loops, and if-statements
  • Write simple lines of code while working up to more complex programs, while having fun doing it
